Geneve Wins Wa State Title
8/03/2010 7:36:47 PM - WASDA

Second generation racer Ricky Geneve drove a faultless race on Saturday night to take out the 62nd WA State Title.

Geneve led the field from the dropping of the green, holding at bay on the night hard chargers Keith Giles in the #8 Paul Robinson owned car, Neville Lance and Scotty Glazebrook. Neville Lance crossed the line first, but his contact with Geneve exiting turn two for the last time was deemed unfair and he was relegated to second place by a NASR appeal hearing. Thereby, awarding the win to Rick Geneve, from Neville Lance and third place to Dayne Kingshott. Kingshott was very lucky to finish in third, as he blew a left rear tyre going down the back straight on the last lap.

Numbers were low for the night, but the quality was high. Eleven cars for the first heat over 10 laps. Glazebrook #3 Pool Shop Kalamunda/Spike into the lead on the first lap from position eight followed by #4 Geneve Osborne Park Retravision/Spike and #16 Alfie Guadagnino Guadagnino/Murphy. On lap two Guadagnino looped the model, bringing out the cautions. At the restart Geneve takes the lead from Glazebrook with a big slide job going into three with #24 Dayne Kingshott Bunbury Subaru/Esslinger up into third. Neville Lance #14 Lance Auto Electrics/Murphy, #23 Glen Mears GT Brake & Clutch/Esslinger and #7 Tom Watson LF Performance/Harris having their own battle for the minor placings. Ten laps completed, first place to Geneve from Glazebrook, Kingshott, Lance, Mears, Watson #54 Jason Roser K Trans Racing/Spike and #8 Keith Giles in the Paul Robinson Aircontrol/Spike car.

Second heat Geneve to the lead from Tom Watson and Lance. Watson makes the move and takes the lead on lap 5 with Lance on his heels, Geneve in third. Giles and Glazebrook having their own race for the minors and a third battle going on between Roser, Mears, Kingshott and Guadagnino. Watson out on lap 8. Lance to the lead from Giles and Glazebrook. Glazebrook gets Giles on the last lap. Winner Lance from Glazebrook, Giles, Roser, Geneve, Mears, Kingshott and Guadagnino.

Ten starters for the Feature over 25 laps. The line up, Geneve, Lance, Giles, Glazebrook, Roser, Watson, Kingshott, Guadagnino, Mears, #55 Craig Lawrence RC Transport/Fighter and #18 Rob Archibald RJ Contractors/Murphy. Geneve gets a great start, Gilesy into second, Lance and Glazebrook. Exiting turn two for the second time Lawrence inverted the model bringing on the reds. At the restart the order was unchanged. Glazebrook makes the move on Lance on lap 5 and into third place. Glazebrook on the march to challenge Giles for second place, but to no avail, slowing up considerably and eventually pulling infield, (the back wheel, cover bent in, completely full of mud, vibrations to bad to continue).

With just 10 laps to go very little separated the top three cars, Geneve, Giles and Lance. Geneve not missing a beat, and hitting his marks each time round. Watson, Kingshott, Mears and Roser meantime were having their own race for the minor placings. Lance moves into second place on lap 17, Kingshott finally gets by Watson. Gilesy pulled infield with three laps to go, with a heating problem. Into the final lap, white flag shown, exiting turn two, contact between Lance and Geneve, and the rest is history.

Result for the event 1st Ricky Geneve, 2nd Neville Lance, 3rd Dayne Kingshott, 4th Tom Watson, 5th Jason Roser and 5th Glen Mears.
