Geneve Finally Gets One
7/02/2010 8:09:00 PM - WASDA
Last night the Osborne Park young gun Ricky Geneve finally got the “monkey off his back” winning his first speedcar feature race at the Perth Motorplex. Geneves’ combination of a third in his first heat, second in the second heat and the win in the feature was the boost the whole team had been waiting for, and the term “winners are grinners” could definitely be applied.
Thirteen teams for the nights racing. The first heat going to #14 Nev Lance Lance/Murphy, with a green to chequer win from pole position. Second place going to #7 Tom Watson LF Performance/Harris, Tom started out of 10 and was the mover in the race. Rounding up third place #4 Ricky Geneve Osborne Park Retravision/Spike, with two laps remaining. Rookie #10 Dave Perry Perry/Stealth only managed to complete three laps when he spun in pits and was collected by #23 Glen Mears GT Brakes/Stealth, both cars finishing up infield and unfortunately for Dave his night was done.
Heat two, was a good victory for #12 Vaughan Manders Blue Chip Engineering/Buzzard, Ricky Geneve in second and Nev Lance third. On lap three #54 Jason Roser K Trans Racing/Spike made contact with Lance and rolled heavily. Tom Watson who was leading at the time, was penalized for passing the crash site on the reds, and at the restart was sent ROF by the officials, Tom choosing to pull on the infield.
Vaughan Manders led the feature for twelve laps, with Geneve, Lance and #24 Dayne Kingshott Bunbury Subaru/Stealth in hot pursuit. On lap thirteen, Geneve passed Manders for the lead only to see the reds come on when #20 Brett Matherson Premier One/Mac rolled violently in turn one. Manders, who could not get his car out of gear, continued to circulate in turns three and four, and failed to stop on the red. He was subsequently sent ROF at the restart.
At the restart it was Geneve, Lance, Kingshott , #16 Alfie Guadagnino Guadagnino/Murphy, Mears, #55 Craig Lawrence RC Transport/Fighter and Manders. The race continued with Geneve pulling away from Lance and Kingshott who were going head to head. Exiting turn four for the chequered, Kingshott drove round the outside of Lance to snatch second place.
